Sustainability isn’t just a trend for some people… and for others, it absolutely is.
In both my business and personal life, I’ve been drawn to sustainability and eco-friendly practices for years.
🌎
I’m far from perfect, but every time I choose a glass bottle or a can over plastic, it feels like the right choice. I (too often) think of the ever-growing Great Pacific Garbage Patch, where plastics and micro plastics strangle the local ecosystem.
I still see plastic when I look around my kitchen. It feels like an impossible task sometimes, when you’re living on the grid anyway.
I have realized though that I don’t need to ‘save the world’ with my environmental efforts, though that is an admirable goal. In the grand scheme of things, the impact we collectively have may not be enough to counter climate change.
Meandering side note - AI has now surpassed climate change as the biggest threat to humanity. So that’s fun.
In all sincerity, my focus is on living more in alignment with my environment and supporting local businesses that share my values. That’s why I’m excited about my new partnership with Hunt & Gather, a boutique florist specializing in sustainable floristry.
Some clients bring their own florist, and of course, I’m here to serve them in whatever way feels right. But if you’re here for it - sustainable floristry is a beautiful way to honour personal values in a farewell.
💐
Hunt & Gather prioritizes locally grown, seasonal blooms over imported flowers with heavy transportation emissions. They even have their own floral farm north of Toronto—something I love. Their arrangements are free from floral foam, a material that never fully breaks down and leaks microplastics into our water systems.
For a lot of people, my clients included, sustainability isn’t just about the environment or “saving the world.” It’s about meaning.
A thoughtful celebration of life reflects the values of the person being honoured, ensuring their memory lives on in a way that feels true to who they were. It’s just one way to weave their story into the fabric of the world they left behind.
If you’re planning a celebration of life and want to explore ways to make it more sustainable, I’m here to help.
Create something meaningful, beautiful, and kind to the earth—just like your loved one. 🤍
